Chele's Cat Care got the call… “Can you help? My cat had kittens and now one of her nipples looks bad.” After we chatted, I got a better understanding of the situation. It turns out mama kitty was still a kitten herself when she got pregnant and had 5 kittens. That’s a great strain on a young cat. After about three weeks of nursing her babies, mama kitty developed mastitis in one of her mammary glands and it was terrible.

The cat owner took mama kitty to an emergency vet where they prescribed antibiotics, but it didn’t really help. That’s when the owner found us. I asked her to bring mama kitty to me right after she brought the five kittens to our bottle nurse. She did, and we took mama to our vet where she was hospitalized so she could receive IV antibiotics and pain medication. Then we called out to you.

You, our dear cat community, came through to pay for surgery to repair mama kitty’s terrible wound. Her loving family could never have afforded this expense themselves. We couldn’t either but sometimes you just take in the cat and beg all day.

Mama kitty is the sweetest kitten. And I do mean kitten! She is roughly 10 months old and did the absolute best job with her 5 kittens. But something happened and through it all she still nursed those babies. Then we got her. After a few nights at the vet, mama kitty went back home. She is a superstar. At her recent follow-up appointment, her staples were removed and she is healing nicely.
